How to Optimize Product Descriptions for Better SEO

Search engines can be a very effective way to reach new customers and drive them into your store. To do this, you will need to incorporate various SEO (Search Engine Optimization) practices when writing your product descriptions. Sadly, there are no magic bullets or even secret potions when doing this, rather they key lies in creating great content.

When writing your descriptions, be sure to use at least 200 words to describe your product. Doing so will give you ample time to sprinkle valuable descriptions and key phrases for the search engines to pick up and index. Be as descriptive as possible too, and use this time to help paint a picture for your customer. Don’t forget to use proper grammar and spelling as well so that you help build trust with your viewer and with the search engines themselves.

After you’ve taken the time to write the most amazing product summary that you could possibly dream of, you must now resist the urge to copy and paste it for use on another product or even duplicate it on another website. Search engines will see this and can potentially downgrade your listing as a result because it may think that you are trying to trick them into getting better rankings. This is often a tactic used by spammers and the last thing you want to do is for a search engine to think that you’re a spammer too.
